Prometheus
2008, for Timpani
Length: 5:30 minutes
Revision: 1
Difficulty: Difficult

Shortly after Salvatore Rabbio retired from a career with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, he asked me to write for him a melodic solo work for timpani. He requested that I not write a slingfest of notes, but something that was singable.

Prometheus was written in 2007. By 2009, Mr. Rabbio had yet to find himself in an "appropriate venue" to play this work in public, so it fell to Mr. Rabbio's student and my wife, Maria Flurry, to premiere the work in a concert of my music. - Henry Flurry
